The Civil and Environmental Engineering Department (CEE) of Southern Methodist University (SMU) seeks to fill new faculty positions at the level of Assistant Professor (Position No. 53589), Associate Professor, or Professor. Eligible candidates will be considered for endowment as the Solomon Professor for Global Development (Position No. 53812) and the Addy Family Centennial Professor (Position No. 53811). The position endowed by the Solomon Professor for Global Development will be affiliated as a Senior Fellow with the Hunter and Stephanie Hunt Institute (HI) for Engineering and Humanity at the Bobby B. Lyle School of Engineering at SMU.
Candidates must have earned a doctorate degree in civil or environmental engineering or a closely related field with strong credentials in research and scholarly activities, and, at the senior level, demonstrated ability to obtain sponsored research from government and industry. The successful candidates must have strong leadership and collaboration skills, as well as a solid commitment to quality undergraduate and graduate education, and the ability to promote innovative and integrated educational and research activities. The department seeks candidates with research interest(s) in the following interdisciplinary areas:
- Smart and Resilient Cities/Infrastructure: The integration of informatics into the planning, design, and management of civil infrastructure elements; civil infrastructure resiliency for extreme environments or under multiple hazards; smart and connected communities; infrastructure interdependency; health monitoring and preserving aging civil infrastructure; and smart and sustainable buildings and other infrastructure components.
- Global and Sustainable Development: The water, energy, food nexus; civil infrastructure planning for inclusive economy; sustainable materials and design for innovative and accelerated construction; linkage between human activities, infrastructure, the environment, and health; green and livable communities; and land-use and infrastructure interactions for smart urban growth.
- Energy Systems: Interactions between energy and civil and environmental infrastructure systems; renewable and sustainable energy sources; biomass conversion, biofuels and bioenergy; atmosphere and energy linkage; next generation structures for energy production; green and net-zero buildings; and geothermal energy productions and applications.
