Tier I Canada Research Chair (Environmental Engineering)
The Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering in the Faculty of Applied Science at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver campus, invites applications for a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair (CRC) in Environmental Engineering. The Chair position is expected to be a full-time tenured appointment made at the rank of Associate or Full Professor in the Department of Chemical & Biological Engineering. This appointment opportunity targets candidates at the rank of Full Professor or Associate Professor who are expected to be promoted to the full professor level within one or two years of nomination. Applicants must have an exceptional international reputation in the application of engineering fundamentals to environmental sustainability and process improvements to reduce environmental impact. They must hold a Ph.D. in Chemical and/or Biological Engineering, or in a closely related discipline. The Chair is expected to provide international leadership in their field of study through proven teaching skills and a field-defining research program that applies engineering fundamentals to environmental sustainability and green manufacturing. Preference will be given to applicants having expertise in water treatment, reclamation and reuse, and with an interest in pursuing solutions to local and global grand challenges in provision of safe water. That interdisciplinary expertise may include, but is not limited to, advanced and innovative water treatment technologies; fate and treatment of contaminants, field experimentation, recovery and beneficial use of industrial and municipal wastewater; and minimizing energy and chemical use in water treatment systems. Teaching at the graduate and undergraduate level is expected. The successful applicant is expected to provide leadership in the new environmental engineering undergraduate program within the Faculty of Applied Science. Anticipated position start is January 1, 2018. Applicants must either be registered, or be eligible to register, with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia.
The Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering (http://www.chbe.ubc.ca) offers Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.Sc.) degree programs in Chemical Engineering and in Chemical and Biological Engineering programs. Graduate programs leading to M.Eng. M.A.Sc., M.Sc., and Ph.D. degrees are also offered.
