Job Description: 

The Civil and Environmental Engineering Department (CEE) of Southern Methodist University (SMU) is seeking applications for highly motivated PhD students to conduct research in the area of environmental biotechnology to: (1) produce value-added bioproducts from waste-driven feedstock; (2) design innovate wastewater treatment systems to remove persistent contaminants in the environment using environmental functional materials; or, (3) develop low-cost, sustainable water and waste treatment solutions for developing worlds. The position will start either in the Fall 2017 or Spring 2018. Applicants are expected to have a strong foundation in environmental biology and chemistry. Candidates with experience working with mixed or pure cultured in batch or continuous bioreactors and molecular ecology techniques are preferred. Excellent communication and written skills are required along with demonstrated success in previous academic research. Additionally, the selected candidate will be expected to oversee students, write reports and publish peer-reviewed journal articles.
