TEXAS TECH UNIVERSITY -The Civil, Environmental, and Construction Engineering (CECE) Department invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position in the general area of Environmental Engineering. This position is expected to be filled at the assistant professor level, but outstanding candidates will also be considered at the associate and full professor levels. The University is supporting a major water initiative under the leadership of Dr. Danny Reible (NAE), the Donovan Maddox Distinguished Engineering Chair. This initiative includes the hiring of up to five new faculty and the addition of more than 20,000 ft2 of laboratory and office space in the Maddox Engineering Research Center that opened September 2016.  This initiative is coordinated with the University-level Water Resources Center which is also housed in the Department   Research areas of special interest include contaminant chemistry, fate, transport and/or treatment, or environmental sustainability with applications to water quality and quantity.   Of particular interest are candidates that can bridge disciplines within and outside the Department. Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in Civil, Environmental, Chemical Engineering or a closely related field at the time of appointment. The successful candidate will be expected to (1) develop an externally-funded and internationally-recognized program of independent and collaborative research, (2) supervise graduate students, (3) teach undergraduate and graduate classes, (4) work across disciplinary boundaries, and (5) serve the Department, the Whitacre College of Engineering, and the University. Industrial experience is not required but will be considered, and the successful candidate should be capable of achieving professional licensure. Candidates will be evaluated on their ability to achieve the above expectations based on their publication records, past efforts and success in pursuing funding opportunities, past experience and performance in teaching, and past service records.  Other categories of evaluation will include the ability to articulate a plan to develop a sustainable research program and any other experience that directly relates to the above expectations.

The CECE Department is home to 28 tenure-track/tenured faculty, including two members of the National Academy of Engineering. The CECE department houses the University-level Water Resources Center (WRC) and the Texas Tech Center for Multidisciplinary Research in Transportation (TechMRT).  The WRC conducts research at the nexus of food, energy and water.  TechMRT’s research portfolio is broad, spanning traditional and emergent areas of research including connected vehicles, novel material systems for next-generation pavements, and bio-inspired materials for climate resilient infrastructure.  Other university level leadership involving department faculty include the directorship of the National Wind Institute (NWI) at Texas Tech.  NWI is world renowned for its work in wind hazard and energy.  Department faculty’s research activity spans regional, national and international research, exceeding 9.5 million dollars in current sponsored research, while citations of their published work exceed 15,500 in the Scopus database, and over 25,000 citations in Google Scholar. The department awards bachelor’s degrees in Civil Engineering (BSCE) and Construction Engineering (BSConE), master’s and doctoral degrees in Civil Engineering, as well as a five-year professional Master of Environmental Engineering (MEnvE) degree. Current enrollment is approximately 575 undergraduates and 100 MEnvE majors.
