Post-Doctoral Position – Chemical Engineering, McMaster University – Membrane Technology

Area of Research: membrane technology, preferably with experience in pilot-scale or industrial scale membrane operation, industrial engineering

Overview of research project:

Applications are invited for a post-doctoral position in wastewater treatment leading to potable reuse technologies. The position is available immediately. The project centers around a RO membrane skid, coupled to a MF membrane process train and a UV disinfection system, to produce potable drinking water from municipal wastewater.  The aim is to study the impacts of mineral scale on the RO membrane surfaces, to optimize the usage of anti-scalants, and assess the impact of these anti-scalants on the downstream UV disinfection process. The research is an exciting opportunity to work on pilot-scale membrane systems in collaboration with an industrial partner, Trojan Technologies, headquartered in London, Ontario. The post-doc will be trained at McMaster University, but will be primarily based at the pilot-scale labs of Trojan Technologies.

The candidate will be the lead contributor on peer reviewed publications and technical reports. They will participate in meetings between industrial partners at Trojan Technologies and Prof. de Lannoy.

Required Qualifications:

-       The applicant must have a PhD in Chemical Engineering or Environmental Engineering from an accredited University awarded in the past 5 years

-       The applicant must have at least 3 published papers on membranes or a related field

-       Experience with membrane processes, membrane manufacture, and/or wastewater treatment

-       Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English

-       Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team and energy to motivated new ideas and novel research

Salary: $40,000.00/year including complete benefits from McMaster University (valued at $7,600.00/year)
