AEESP is committed to the peaceful debate of ideas that is the heart of academic freedom. In the past week, we have learned of violent actions against peaceful protesters on university campuses in Iran. We recognize that these events have caused stress and anxiety for many members of our community, especially for our faculty colleagues, postdocs, and students with ties to Iran. We stand with you in this difficult time and confirm our support of women’s rights.
AEESP pledges to promote and support inclusivity through all actions in our organization. We know that international communities play a key role in creativity and innovation to advance the environmental engineering and science field. As professors, we remain attentive to providing supportive individualized mentoring to our postdocs and students as they balance academic and personal commitments. We encourage you to reach out to your Iranian students and colleagues.
Sincerely,
Allison MacKay, The Ohio State University, AEESP President
Debora Rodrigues, University of Houston, AEESP President-Elect
Lee Blaney, University of Maryland Baltimore County, AEESP Vice President
