King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), founded in 2009, is an international, graduate research University located on the shores of the Red Sea in Saudi Arabia. KAUST is dedicated to advancing science and engineering through interdisciplinary research, education and innovation. It was announced in 2013 that KAUST had one of the fastest growing research and citation records in the world and in the 2016 Nature Index Rising Stars was ranked #19 in the world of the fastest rising universities for high quality research output. KAUST was ranked #1 in the world in citations per faculty ranking indicator as per QS World University Rankings for 2015-2016 and 2016-2017.
Two PhD positions are available in the Environmental Nanotechnology group at KAUST on three topics (1) two dimensional nanomaterial (graphene, MXene, MoS2, etc.) based membranes for water filtration; (2) photothermal based water desalination; (3) antifouling and self-healing surfaces toward environmental applications. The applicants are supposed to have had prior MS degree in the relevant fields, such as, environmental science, chemistry, chemical engineering, material, physics.

The students, once admitted, will receive a generous fellowship, which covers living expenses, free housing, round-trip tickets back home country every year, health and dental insurance, and a sizable tax-free stipend.
