The Civil Engineering Department at Montana State University seeks candidates with strong academic credentials to provide leadership and administration for a well-established academic and research-oriented department. As lead administrator for the department, the department head is expected to mentor and promote faculty, maintain productive relationships with upper administration, oversee the department’s budget, administer program and facilities improvements, lead curriculum development and accreditation activities, foster research and creative activities for faculty and students, interact with industry and alumni, and build collegial interactions with other departments and colleges. The department head also has the opportunity to teach in his or her area of expertise, engage in research, and recruit and mentor graduate and undergraduate students.
The CE Department at MSU has 17 tenured or tenure-track faculty, and approximately 660 undergraduate students and 40 graduate students. The department offers ABET-accredited baccalaureate programs in both civil engineering and construction engineering technology,and is pursuing such a program in environmental engineering. At the graduate level, the department offers MS degrees in Civil and Environmental Engineering, and a PhD degree in Engineering with options in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, and Applied Mechanics. The department is responsible for teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in engineering mechanics for the College of Engineering (COE). Research opportunities within the department are enhanced by ties with the Western Transportation Institute (WTI) and the Center for Biofilm Engineering (CBE), as well the resources available in the Subzero Science and Engineering Research Facility (SSERF), all of which are part of the College of Engineering (COE).
MSU is located in Bozeman, Montana, an extended community of about 70,000 nestled in the Rocky Mountains in Southwest Montana. Bozeman is renowned for year-round recreational and cultural opportunities that include access to world class ski areas, multiple blue ribbon trout streams and the Gallatin National Forest, with Yellowstone National Park just 90 miles away. The regional airport located just outside of Bozeman is served by several national airlines connecting to cities and major airport hubs.
