Sun Yat-Sen University (SYSU) is a comprehensive university dedicated to quality education, research, and service. The department of Environmental Science & Engineering at SYSU offers B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in both Environmental Science and Environmental Engineering. The department currently has 62 full-time faculty members with expertise in all environment-related fields, and numerous research faculty and staff. We currently have 480 undergraduate and 330 graduate students. Research in the department include three core areas: water, air and soil pollutant control, in addition to another four interdisciplinary fields: environmental microbiology, environmental materials, environmental toxicity and environmental management. U.S. News & World Report rankings place our program (Environment/Ecology) at worldwide #173.
The department invites applicants for six open-rank faculty positions beginning the 2018/19 academic year. We are seeking highly motivated researchers with expertise in all environmental -related fields. Preference will be given to candidates with a research focus in the following areas: 1) soil pollution and remediation, 2) environmental microbiome, including bioinformatics, metagenomics, environmental microbiology, microbial ecology, metabolic engineering, genome editing, and systems biology. 3) Air pollution control, specializing in atmospheric chemistry, atmospheric physics, environmental catalysis, material physics, quantum chemistry.
Junior candidates should have at least two-year postdoc experiences in related area and are expected to develop an internationally recognized and externally funded research program. Senior candidates must have a demonstrated record of success in one of the appropriate fields. All candidates must have a PhD degree in a relevant discipline (Environmental Science, Environmental/Chemical Engineering, Microbiology, Chemistry, or closely related) and be strongly committed to both undergraduate and graduate teaching.
