Job Description

The Bates College Program in Environmental Studies seeks to hire a one-year, full-time, Assistant Professor in environmental field science to begin August 1, 2023. We are looking for a person who works in an area of applied environmental science. The successful candidate will teach a normal five-course load over Bates’ fall, winter, and May semester (“short term”), and will advise undergraduate research students. Courses taught will include an introductory environmental science course and two other courses currently in our curriculum. Candidates may also propose one or two courses in their area of expertise. A demonstrated commitment to undergraduate teaching and a record of interdisciplinary scholarship and teaching are important.

We specifically seek applications from individuals with the ability to contribute to the continuing commitment of both the Environmental Studies Program and Bates to equity and inclusion, social and cultural diversity, and the transformative power of our differences. Candidates must hold a PhD or be ABD by August 1, 2023.
