Job Description

We invite applications for a Ph.D. position related to modeling of the anaerobic digestion of lignocellulosic wastes. The successful applicant will engage in experimental and modeling work to investigate the impact of chemical, thermal, and thermochemical pretreatment on the anaerobic digestion of cattle manure.

The project is funded by the National Science and Engineering Council of Canada, Mathematics of Information Technology and Complex Systems (MITACS), Brown and Caldwell Consulting Engineers, and Lystek International. The project involves strong collaboration with industry and opportunities for internships. The selected candidate will join a research team comprised of 5 doctoral students, 2 post-doctoral fellows, a research associate, and a visiting researcher focused on the development of anaerobic digestion technologies. Applicants should have a master’s degree and a strong background in biological wastewater treatment, anaerobic digestion of wastewater biosolids and agricultural wastes, anaerobic digestion modeling of lignocellulosic wastes, and knowledge of the anaerobic digestion model ADM1. The candidate must also be competent in conducting and modeling of anaerobic treatability studies. Excellent oral and written communication skills are necessary, and knowledge of experimental design software is an asset.
