Dr. Kaushik Venkiteshwaran at University of South Alabama (USA) Department of Civil, Coastal & Environmental Engineering invites qualified applicants who intend to pursue a Ph.D. degree in the areas of environmental chemistry, microbiology, and biotechnology.
Students with strong motivation to conduct research on topics, including bioremediation of emerging contaminants (e.g., PFAS, microplastics), nutrient removal, antimicrobial resistance, and engineered systems (e.g., biofiltration and bioreactors) are highly encouraged to apply.
Applicants with a MS degree in Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Environmental Science, and other relevant disciplines will be preferred. Excellent English communication and written skills are also desirable.
Ideal applicants are expected to possess solid academic background and hands-on laboratory experience in water chemistry, microbial cultivation and characterization, biomolecular techniques (e.g., PCR and cloning, and advanced analytical tools (e.g., GC/MS and LC/MS/MS).
The student will be admitted to the Ph.D. program starting in the summer or fall semester of 2024 and will receive tuition support, and a competitive monthly stipend and benefits.
