Job Description: 

A postdoctoral research associate position is available immediately in the Research Group of Professor Tanju Karanfil in the Department of Environmental Engineering and Earth Sciences at Clemson University ( The primary responsibility will be to work on research projects related to the removal and management of PFAS in water and different solid matrices. Experience with PFAS experimental research and the use of related analytical equipment (e.g., LC/MS/MS) is highly desired. The candidate must have the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with a dynamic research group, should possess strong problem-solving skills, and have publications and conference presentations.

There are also opportunities to participate in research on cutting-edge emerging environmental technologies and challenges (e.g., nanobubbles, AI enable water/wastewater treatment, microplastics etc…). In addition to research, the successful candidate will be expected to coordinate activities in the research group, write progress reports, draft manuscripts for publication, and present results at sponsor meetings and professional conferences.

The candidate must have a Ph.D. degree in chemistry, environmental/chemical engineering, or closely related fields. A strong background in organic and oxidation chemistry and experience with the use of various analytical equipment related to water quality and solid material characterization is sought.

This is a one-year appointment with potential renewal for a second and third year subject to performance and funding.
