Graduate Research Assistantship at Villanova University
Dr. Wenqing Xu invites applications for a graduate research assistantship at the Ph.D. level in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Villanova University. Dr. Xu’s research interest builds upon the fundamental understanding of environmental interfacial chemistry, with the goal of applying these concepts to natural and engineered systems to address today’s environmental challenges. The specific project will focus on developing tailored biochar to remove Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) of concern.
A master’s degree in environmental engineering, environmental science, chemistry, or a related field is required. Ideal candidates should have a good understanding of general chemistry, analytical chemistry, and organic chemistry. Knowledge of environmental chemistry, material chemistry, or/and computational chemistry is highly desirable. Experience in analytical instruments or/and material synthesis is a plus. Interested students are encouraged to contact Dr. Xu directly (wenqing.xu@villanova.edu) using “EnvPhD-Your name-2025” as the subject line. The following items should be included in the email:
1) a one-page summary of research experience/interest; 2) curriculum vitae (including GPA, GRE, and TOFEL scores and a list of relevant courses and scores that you have taken); and 3) three references (only names and contact information at this point).
Interested candidates can find more information on Dr. Xu’s research from the link below: https://www1.villanova.edu/university/engineering/faculty-research/Huma…
The expected start date is August 2025. The review will begin immediately. A short list of candidates will be informed by the end of April.
