Job Description

The Shuai group at The George Washington University (https://www.seas.gwu.edu/danmeng-shuaihttps://materwatersus.weebly.com/) is looking for a Ph.D. student or a postdoc working on human viral pathogens in the environment. Particularly, we are seeking candidates who are interested in two different research fields:

1. Development of innovative materials for controlling the spread of pathogenic viruses. We have recently synthesized electrospun nanofibrous membranes for controlling the airborne transmission of coronavirus aerosols, and fabricated photoreactive nanomaterials for eradicating persistent biofilms. Research outcomes have been published on EST, EST Lett., ACS Appl. Mater. Interfaces, and J. Hazard. Mater. (https://doi.org/10.1021/acs.est.2c00885https://doi.org/10.1021/acs.estlett.1c00337https://doi.org/10.1016/j.jhazmat.2020.124890https://doi.org/10.1021/acsami.8b18543)

2. Understanding the environmental behavior of vesicle-cloaked virus clusters. We are interested in investigating the environmental persistence, infectivity, and disinfection of vesicle-cloaked virus clusters. Recent work has been published on EST (https://doi.org/10.1021/acs.est.1c01763;https://doi.org/10.1021/acs.est.2c00233; https://doi.org/10.1021/acs.est.2c00732).

Candidates with a strong background and interest in catalysis, nanotechnology, or environmental microbiology are encouraged to apply. The position is immediately available. To apply please email Danmeng Shuai (danmengshuai (at) gwu.edu) with your CV, transcripts (for Ph.D. application only), and a cover letter to highlight why you are interested in this position.
