Living Skies Postdoctoral Fellow, Contaminated Site Remediation Technology
The Synergy Team for Clean Lands and Water led by Dr. Wonjae Chang (Department of Civil, Geological and Environmental Engineering) is recruiting a postdoctoral fellow through the Living Skies Postdoctoral Fellows Program for novel research on hybrid remediation technology for soils and groundwater impacted by mixed petroleum hydrocarbons (organic) and salts (inorganic). The research is conducted in collaboration with a major Canadian energy company and a remediation engineering company. The postdoctoral fellow will be exposed to a collaborative, interdisciplinary research environment, working with colleagues in environmental chemistry, microbiology and environmental and geoenvironmental engineering, including the scientists from the Canadian Light Source.
Qualifications: The candidate should have completed a Ph.D. degree in environmental science, environmental/geoenvironmental engineering, contaminant hydrogeology, environmental material/mineral engineering related to site remediation research (contaminated soils and groundwater), or other programs closely related to contaminated site remediation. The successful candidate is expected to have produced high-quality research outputs and/or possess tangible R&D experience in site remediation research projects. Laboratory and field research experience related to permeable reactive barriers (PRB), contaminant transport and fate through groundwater, and/or innovative in situ groundwater remediation technology development is an asset.
The capacity to produce high-impact journal publications in a timely manner and strong written and oral English communication skills are required. Professional communication and leadership will be needed throughout the research project when collaborating with technical experts from industry.
Conditions: Initial appointment is for one year at first, renewal for another year will be possible upon mutual satisfaction and funding availability.
Start: Immediately.
How to apply: Interested applicants should submit a cover letter describing how their background, experience and qualifications match the position, a full CV and the names and contact information of at least two references in a single PDF file to geobiosynergy@gmail.com.
Consideration of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is successfully filled. We will respond only to select candidates according to the recruitment process and will not be able to acknowledge the receipt of each application.
