Job Description

The department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of California, Irvine invites applications for a Postdoc Scholar position beginning immediately.

The position requires metagenomics experience for DNA sequence analysis, experience for primers design for target amplification, and general knowledge of environmental system. The specific project is on molecular surveillance of SARS-CoV-2 in the environmental samples and variants detection. Skills in synthetic biology or a related experience are also highly preferred. There is the possibility to expand to other research areas (through other ongoing projects in the group) including biosensor technology for pollution monitoring and novel materials for environmental applications.

The position requires a Ph.D. in environmental engineering, environmental microbiology, chemical or biomedical engineering or a related field from an accredited university. The preferred candidate should have experience in bioinformatic tools for nucleic acid sequence analysis, good oral and written communication skills and demonstrate a strong publication record. The candidate will join Dr. Sunny Jiang’s research group to perform ongoing projects supported by federal and private funded grants. Initial appointment will be for a 12-month period, renewable subject to performance and continuation of project funding. Salary will commensurate with qualifications and experience.
