Job Description

The Laboratory for Low-Carbon Energy and Environmental Sustainability in the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences at the University of Wyoming (UW) now has one postdoctoral research associate position in Technological Learning for Large-Scale Blue Hydrogen Production (Job No.222730).

The Laboratory for Low-Carbon Energy and Environmental Sustainability promotes a long-term vision for the role of both technology and policy to cope with complex energy, environmental and natural resource challenges. The laboratory conducts systems research that addresses technical, economic, and policy issues related to energy and environmental systems. Current interests of research mainly include low-carbon energy systems, carbon capture and storage, bioenergy with carbon capture and storage, hydrogen production, and the energy-water nexus under carbon constraints for climate change mitigation. The principal investigator is Prof. Haibo Zhai, the Roy & Caryl Cline Chair of Engineering, Environment and Natural Resources at UW. He is also Adjunct Faculty in the School of Energy Resources at UW and in the Department of Engineering and Public Policy at Carnegie Mellon University.

The laboratory will hire a postdoctoral research associate to work on a research project that aims toprovide an integrated technical, economic, and policy assessment of large-scale blue hydrogen production in support of sustainable development of a hydrogen economy in fossil-rich states or regions. The postdoctoral research associate will develop learning curve models for large-scale blue hydrogen production and evaluate natural resource requirements for technological learning. The postdoctoral researcher will also need to prepare progress reports, present research results at conferences, and publish work in peer-reviewed journals.

A doctoral degree in environmental science, engineering, and economics, or energy-related disciplines is required for this position. The applicants with expertise on carbon capture and storage, learning curves, techno-economic analysis, and life cycle analysis are strongly encouraged.
