Position description
The School of Public Health at the University of California, Berkeley seeks applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the area of Environmental Justice and Health Equity. The successful candidate will be invited to join the Environmental Health Sciences Division in the UC Berkeley School of Public Health. Joint appointments with department-affiliated institutes and initiatives, or other UC Berkeley departments, will also be considered.
Successful applicants are expected to develop an internationally recognized program and collaborate across disciplines to develop research initiatives in the realms of environmental justice and health disparities. We seek rising leaders from diverse fields including, but not limited to, environmental health sciences, epidemiology, statistics/biostatistics, data science, economics, environmental health policy, disease ecology, environmental science/engineering, sociology, and geography, who integrate innovative and rigorous methods to characterize environmental health impacts and risks related to environmental and/or occupational health disparities at the local, national, and/or global scales.
We are especially interested in scholars dedicated to advancing environmental justice and undertaking research of relevance for environmental health policy and regulatory decision-making to reduce or eliminate structural determinants of environmental health disparities and/or risk. Examples of potential methodological focus areas include, but are not limited to: causal inference, application of quasi-experimental study designs, comparative risk frameworks, and counterfactual reasoning; development of novel modeling or sensing methods to characterize exposures to environmental hazards; leveraging diverse data sources such as electronic health records, satellite and drone-acquired data and data from personal mobile and monitoring technologies to conduct health and exposure studies; application of novel approaches to characterize pollutant mixtures or the combined health effects of environmental and social stressors; and application of novel qualitative research methods appropriate to environmental justice contexts.
Candidates should also demonstrate evidence of strong research productivity, potential for securing extramural funding, and a commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring of undergraduates, graduate students, and post-docs. Faculty are expected to teach courses at the doctoral, masters, and/or undergraduate levels.

Completion of a doctorate degree (e.g., PhD, DrPH, ScD, MD/DO) or equivalent international degree, or enrolled in a doctorate degree or equivalent international degree-granting program at the time of application.
