Two PhD position postings

The Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) invites applications for a Ph.D. student for Spring 2023 to work on multiple projects under the supervision of Dr. Ashraf Aly Hassan. The position will be housed in Environmental Engineering labs in cooperation with the National Water Center (NWC) at UAEU.

The first position green bio-desalination project:

The objective of this project is to investigate, evaluate and develop the principal components of a cost effective, innovative, engineered bioreactor for desalination using algae and cyanobacteria. The Ph.D. student will be fully supported with a stipend, tuition, and benefits through research assistantship. This project is conducted in collaboration with National Risk Management Research Laboratory at the US EPA.

The second position green sustainable energy production project

The objective of this project is to develop an innovative approach to increase the yield and sustain biohydrogen photo-production by inducing intracellular anaerobiosis using coated nanomaterials. The Ph.D. student will be fully supported with a stipend, tuition, and benefits through research assistantship. This project is conducted in collaboration with California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly). 

The applicants for both positions need a basic understanding of microbiology (algae), water chemistry, and reactor design. Previous publications in the field of desalination, nanoparticles, algae, biohydrogen or any related field is a plus. The candidate should be highly motivated. BS in CIVIL ENGINEERING IS A MUST. MS degree in any related engineering field is a requirement such: environmental engineering, civil engineering, chemical engineering, or biological systems engineering.
