Title: Graduate Research Assistants in Energy and Environmental Geochemistry
Positions: Multiple positions are available at Ph.D. and M.S. levels.
- Two positions at Ph.D. level are available. Awarded Ph.D. students are fully supported by teaching and research assistancy. The position typically leads to a Ph.D. degree in 5 years. More information about the Ph.D. program: https://www.stonybrook.edu/commcms/geosciences/graduate/phd-geoscience.
- Multiple M.S. (with thesis) students are usually self-supported but may be partially supported if external funding exists. More information about M.S. programs: https://www.stonybrook.edu/commcms/geosciences/graduate/ms.
Qualification: Ideal candidates should have a B.S. degree or higher in Environmental Sciences/Engineering, Chemistry, Geochemistry, Biology/Biochemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or related areas. Previous experience in chemistry laboratories is preferred but not required. Candidates should also have good skills in communication, writing, critical thinking, exploration, and collaboration.
Research group: The Energy and Environmental Geochemistry Laboratory is actively collaborating with Civil and Environmental Engineering Department, Chemistry Department, and U.S. National Laboratories. More information about the group is found at: https://sites.google.com/stonybrook.edu/eegl. Research areas in the research group include (but are not limited to):
- CO2 mineralization in geologic formation to reduce climate change
- (Bio)geochemical alteration of reservoir rocks and infrastructure during underground H2 storage
- Fate/transport of contaminants in wastewater treatment through mineral reactions
Requirements: Interested applicants are encouraged to contact Dr. Qingyun Li (qingyun.li@stonybrook.edu) with a CV, unofficial transcript(s), and a short research statement (1-page, optional). International students with native languages other than English are expected to provide their TOEFL/IELTS results.
