Georgia Southern University
Up to two MS Research Assistant Positions are available in Department of Civil Engineering and Construction at Georgia Southern University. These students will join a research team working on one of two projects.
One project is focused on characterizing and understanding the role of recalcitrant organic phosphorus forms on sustaining harmful algal blooms in freshwater systems. This project is supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF). Duties of the MS students will include integrating laboratory experimentation with field sampling and data analysis to achieve the research goals. This student will be advised by Prof Francisco Cubas.
Required qualifications:
- B.S. in environmental engineering, civil engineering, chemical engineering, biotechnology, or other relevant fields
- Capacity to work in a collaborative environment.
Strong candidates may also possess the following:
- Experience with water or wastewater experimental work, design, or simulation
- Prior experience with environmental chemistry techniques, including chromatographic methods and/or mass spectrometry is preferred, but not required.
Another project will be working with an industry partner to assess and model their effluent water treatment. This industrial facility uses and treats approximately 40 MGD. The project is focused on enhancing the ability to address urgent effluent compliance issues while facilitating the navigation of long-term sustainability goals. This student will be advised by Profs Stetson Rowles, Francisco Cubas, and George Fu.
