Job Description

The United States Military Academy (USMA) invites applications for an academic non-tenure track Assistant Professor position within the Department of Geography and Environmental Engineering, with a starting date during the period from June 1st to June 30th, 2023. The position has an initial two-year term-limited appointment in the excepted service with the potential for extension pending additional funding.

Applicants must have a Doctor of Philosophy in Sustainability, Environmental Science, Climate Science, Geography, Environmental Engineering or a closely related field at the time of appointment. Desired core specialties include one or more of the following areas: climate modeling, environmental impact or lifecycle modeling, greenhouse gas inventories, renewable energy technologies, climate security, energy security, and/or sustainable and resilient infrastructure. Exceptional candidates with core specialties in other related areas of study will also be considered. Critically important to this position is the ability and interest in researching and helping develop solutions for sustainability and/or resilience related challenges within the Department of the Army. Teaching responsibilities will include instructing one course per semester within the Department of Geography and Environmental Engineering’s course catalog. Candidates should also be able to inform curriculum development in their core specialty area.

The selection committee will evaluate breadth and depth of professional experience, demonstrated scholarship excellence, leadership ability, and personal attributes. Dedication to excellence in scholarship, teaching, and curriculum development are essential requirements of this position. Individuals must display outstanding character and have a strong commitment to the intellectual and character development of cadets.
