Job Description

The Dept of Civil, Structural & Environmental Engineering, Trinity College Dublin invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow for the research and development of methane (CH4) gas biofilter using a packed bed media filter for capture and treatment of CH4 gas released from an on-site wastewater treatment system or septic tank. The successful candidate will perform the following tasks: 1. Identify efficient biocompatible media to capture and treat the diluted CH4 stream. 2. CFD and biofilm modelling and simulation of a biofilter for efficient CH4 bioconversion. 3. Developing a prototype CH4 biofilter and testing it in the relevant environment such as a gas vent of an on-site wastewater treatment system or septic tank. 4. Communication and dissemination activities raising awareness of the CH4 biofilter concept and its potential impacts among key stakeholders 5. Publication of scientific results in peer-reviewed journals and presentation at scientific conferences. Applicants with research or industry experience in CFD modelling (Ansys or COMSOL), GHGs emissions, and/or wastewater treatment are preferred. The successful candidates will join a multidisciplinary research group undertaking research on greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from wastewater treatment systems in Ireland. The candidate should have a PhD degree in environmental engineering, environmental science, or related fields. Candidates must possess strong modelling (Ansys or COMSOL) and communication (written and oral English) skills and work in a collaborative environment. In addition, the candidate will supervise graduate students, prepare manuscripts, and other administrative duties.
