Job Description

Research Fellow position is available at Trinity College Dublin, the University of Dublin, Ireland, to work on a research project related to anaerobic ammonium oxidation (anammox) process for wastewater treatment and resource recovery. This project will focus on developing an energy-efficient autotrophic biological nitrogen removal process with the potential for resource recovery. The successful candidate will join an active research group at Trinity College Dublin, working under the supervision of Prof. Muhammad Ali. Prof. Ali’s group is a multidisciplinary team with experience and expertise in environmental engineering, wastewater treatment, microbial ecology, and applied bioinformatics.

The project is sponsored by Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI).

Qualifications
The candidate should have a PhD degree in environmental engineering, environmental microbiology, or related fields.

Knowledge & Experience (Essential & Desirable)
The candidate is expected to have strong experience in operating anammox bioreactors in lab settings. The use of general molecular biological tools (e.g., PCR, qPCR, and FISH) and bioinformatics analysis of meta-omic (metagenomics and metatranscriptomic) data is highly encouraged. Experience in working with advanced analytical tools such as 15N stable isotope labelling experiment is a big plus.

Skills & Competencies
Candidates must possess strong analytical and communication (written and oral English) skills and work in a collaborative environment. In addition, the candidate will supervise graduate students, prepare manuscripts, and present results at national and international conferences.
