Job Description

IIHR – Hydroscience & Engineering (https://www.iihr.uiowa.edu/) at the University of Iowa (https://uiowa.edu/) seeks a highly motivated postdoctoral research scholar to join Dr. Troy Lyon’s research group (Troy Lyons | IIHR—Hydroscience & Engineering (uiowa.edu)). Pay is commensurate with experience. The appointment is full-time for 1 year. This is an immediate opening and applications will be considered until a successful candidate is identified.

Research will focus on hydraulics, sediment transport, and fish passage at dams and other structures using reduced-scale laboratory models. Key areas of responsibility include:

• Work independently on applied research projects with oversight by Principal Investigator (PI).
• Perform experimental investigations to understand hydraulic conditions, design performance and develop solutions to improve hydraulic designs as needed.
• Collect, analyze and interpret laboratory model data.
• Serve as a mentor to undergraduate and graduate students working on the project.
• Document and report research results to the research team and project sponsor.

Required Qualifications: Ph.D. in a relevant science or engineering field (e.g., Civil & Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Material Science, etc.) prior to starting this position is required.

Experience in experimental research in the broad area of river mechanics is required.

Desirable Qualifications:
Experience in experimental methods for river hydraulics, sediment transport, and fish passage is highly desirable.

Experience performing fundamental or applied research related to rivers, dams, or other hydraulic structures is desirable.
