Job Description

Trinity College Dublin (TCD) invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow for research and development work in the area of heat recovery from wastewater. The TCD School of Engineering and TCD AMBER materials research centre, are collaborating with a number of industrial food producers on the development of solutions for the recycling of heat from wastewater treatment processes, including numerical modelling, laboratory assessment, field validation, life cycle assessment and commercialisation.

Prospective postdoctoral research fellows are required to contribute to some of the following tasks:
• Carrying out background research in the field of wastewater heat recovery, wastewater treatment and food production.
• Carrying out market research, and conducting commercialisation activities
• Carrying out modelling of wastewater treatment process and heat in industrial and commercial wastewater treatment settings.
• Carrying out life cycle impact assessments
• Carrying out laboratory and field testing of heat recovery systems in wastewater treatment process tanks.
• Communication and dissemination activities raising awareness on the wastewater heat recovery concept and its potential impacts among key commercials stakeholders.

The successful candidates will join a multidisciplinary research group undertaking research on the topic of wastewater heat recovery. The overall project is entitled Recycling Energy Hidden in Existing Wastewater Treatment Systems. The project is funded by the Enterprise Ireland Commercialisation fund, through the European Regional Development fund, grant number CF-2022-1928-P.

Applicants are expected to play a senior role in the delivery of project reports, deliverables and other administrative duties. Applicants with a PhD in a related engineering or science discipline will be considered. Applicants with research or industry experience in the fields of wastewater systems, and/or numerical modelling are particularly welcome for technical tasks. Applicants with research commercialisation experience are also desirable.
