Job Summary:
The Senior Research Associate will engage in multidisciplinary research with the Fehsenfeld Family Head of Environmental and Ecological Engineering (EEE) at Purdue University and researchers within the Laboratory for Sustainable Manufacturing (LSM). This position will participate in research projects including but not limited to the modeling of supply chain risk (including environmental risks) and optimization of supply chains for domestic ordnance production and developing approaches, models, and frameworks for incorporating cybersecurity into manufacturing ecosystems in addition to minimizing the energy consumed by industrial activities.

The Laboratory for Sustainable Manufacturing (LSM) at Purdue University aims to apply the principles of sustainability in the manufacturing industry. Current areas of research include smart/sustainable manufacturing, circular materials economy (including recycling and remanufacturing), sustainability of bioenergy systems, green manufacturing planning, sustainability impacts, and social sustainability of manufacturing.

What We Are Looking For:

Education and Experience:
Required:
• Ph.D. in mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, manufacturing engineering, environmental engineering, materials engineering, chemical engineering, or a closely related discipline
• A minimum of 0-1 year of relevant research experience in industry or research, installation of and operation of control systems for complex machinery operation, and/or information technology and computer control of complex experiments

Skills:
Required:
• A proven ability to write and edit engineering manuscripts
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Proficient in Python, MATLAB, and Microsoft Suite
• Knowledge of instrumentation and data acquisition systems and effective troubleshooting
• Ability to manage resources wisely to meet project goals and deadlines
• Ability to effectively manage digital documents
• Capability to multitask
• Proven ability to write, secure, and manage research projects, including conceiving, preparing (authoring / co-authoring), budgeting, and submitting grant proposals (based on innovative concepts) to government agencies and industries
Additional Information:
• This position is funded by grants from the U.S. Department of Army and U.S. Department of Energy. The terms of the grants require the hired candidate to be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident
• This position has a limited duration of one (1) year with continuation dependent upon additional grant funding
• All new hires will be expected to follow Protect Purdue
