Job Description

Job Description Summary: A group of faculty from several Colleges at Auburn University led by Dr. Tham Hoang initiated a multidisciplinary research collaboration to address environmental pollution problems and to support environmental resilience and sustainability. As part of this initiative, we are recruiting a Research Associate with a PhD in Chemistry and experience in environmental and analytical chemistry to assist with chemical analysis in environmental samples. The Research Associate will primarily support research efforts and may engage in education, outreach, and services where opportunities are available. The candidate can participate in research with our faculty when suitable opportunities are available. The candidate must be eligible to work in the USA and is expected to work with faculty and students across colleges where research involving chemical analysis is needed.
Minimum Qualification: The successful candidate should have:
• A PhD degree in Chemistry or related field
• Technical experience using instrumentation like ICP-MS, GC-MS, HPLC, qPCR, FTIR-microscope, IC, or TOC analyzer, as well as analyte extraction and preparation for environmental matrices (soil, water, and/or air) to understand the fate and effects of pollutants in the environment
• Good laboratory practice, communication skills, and willingness to work with faculty and students at Auburn University
Desired Qualifications:
• Experience in the analysis of organic pollutants and microplastics in environmental samples with different matrixes as well as common water quality parameters
• Familiar with standard analytical methods, such as EPA methods including QA/QC procedures
• Experience in instrument maintenance and troubleshooting as well as the organization of an analytical lab
• Publication in environmental chemistry work
Duration: The job is for 2 years with potential of extension, depending on the candidate’s performance and research funding of the faculty. The start time is flexible but can be as early as July 3, 2023.
Salary: This is a 12-month full time job with salary up to $70,000/year plus fringe benefit, depending on the candidate’s qualifications.
