Dr. Megan Hart’s Remediation Laboratory in the School of Science and Engineering at University of Missouri Kansas City is seeking graduate students or postdoctoral research associate for the Fall 2023 or Spring 2024 semester. For graduate students, both Master and Ph.D. levels will be considered. Knowledge of PFAS is a highly desirable skill for potential graduate students but required for a postdoctoral research associate. The goal of these projects is to advance a novel technology for PFAS degradation from the laboratory scale and perform site demonstrations. Researchers will gain expertise in advanced oxidation processes as well as conduct analysis with high-resolution mass spectrometry and ion chromatography for analysis of PFAS and byproducts. Researchers will work directly with industrial and federal partners.

The primary responsibilities for this position will include:
- Planning, conducting, and managing laboratory experiments to address the objectives described in the assigned projects.
- Construct and operate prototypes for field demonstration
- Analyze samples and subsequent data
- Preparing manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals and presenting findings at conferences.
PhD/MS Student Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering, chemical engineering, civil engineering or a related discipline
- Ability to work in a collaborative environment
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong problem-solving and organizational skills
- Detail oriented
- Prefer experience with PFAS and LC-MS/MS or chromatography analysis
Additional Post Doctoral Duties:
- Post doctoral research associates will supervise undergraduate, PhD, and MS students
- Support the Principal Investigator in purchasing, maintaining records, maintaining instruments, and other day-to-day aspects of running the lab
Additional Post Doctoral Required Qualifications
- PhD in environmental engineering, environmental chemistry/geochemistry, or a related discipline
- Knowledge of PFAS, LC-MS/MS, chromatography, and AOP processes
