The Alvarez-Cohen Lab in the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley (UCB) is seeking a Postdoctoral Scholar with expertise in environmental chemistry, analytical chemistry, and/or halogenated contaminant remediation. The scholar will work on a collaborative project supported by the Strategic Environmental Research and Development Program (SERDP), focused on improving the detection and transformation of environmental contaminants, especially per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and other highly halogenated compounds.
The Postdoctoral Scholar will perform individual and team-based research, help oversee laboratory activities, mentor students, present at national conferences, prepare results for publication and assist with grant writing.
Preferred qualifications include experience with redox chemistry and analytical techniques including gas/liquid chromatography and mass spectroscopy (e.g. GC-FID, HRMS, QToF-MS, LC-MS/MS). Experience with PFAS or similar contaminants of concern is desired.
