Job Description

We are seeking a Research Fellow in Innovative and Energy-Efficient Biological Wastewater Treatment to join School of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Academic Division.

We are seeking a Research Fellow contributing to developing innovative granular sludge-based biological wastewater treatment processes, with a focus on linking omic-based understanding of microbial ecology and kinetics to novel engineering design and operation. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in wastewater bioreactor engineering, microbial kinetics, and molecular microbiology. The Research Fellow will be working as a part of an interdisciplinary team including graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, professors, and industry partners. The position provides significant opportunities for growth and to pursue a career in academia or industry.

About the area

School of Civil and Environmental Engineering sits within the Faculty of Engineering, Academic Division and is responsible for providing a unique opportunity to lead research projects in close cooperation with urban water utilities, other industries, governments and collaborators at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT).

What you need to succeed

1. Completion of doctoral qualification in Environmental Engineering, Biotechnology, or a related field with a focus on sustainable wastewater treatment.

2. Strong knowledge and understanding of wastewater (molecular) microbiology, advanced kinetics modelling, and innovative treatment processes.

3. Experience in operating and optimizing continuous bioreactors and pilot-scale systems for wastewater treatment.

4. Excellent communication skills with the ability to prepare research proposals, manuscripts, and technical reports.

5. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in interdisciplinary research teams.

6. Strong publication record in reputable journals showcasing research productivity.

Term: Fixed-term, full-time basis for three (3) years.

Remuneration: AUD$87,917 to AUD$119,296 pa (LEVA) (inclusive of AUD$74,291 to AUD$100,806 salary pa, 17% superannuation and 17.5% recreation leave loading)
