Professor Shankar Chellam, in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Texas A&M University, is seeking a postdoctoral researcher and doctoral student to perform largely experimental research on topics related to potable reuse. The overall foci of this work are virus behavior, electrocoagulation, and membrane filtration as they relate to municipal wastewater reclamation. An important aspect (perquisite) of the work is that it provides sufficient freedom to tailor specific objectives and therefore has inherent flexibility to design the work plan. Job responsibilities and laboratory work can be accordingly defined as deemed best towards generating high quality publications.
The research is funded by multiple federal, state, industrial, and private sponsors. Although funding is available for multiple years, the initial appointment will be for one year and annual renewals will hinge on satisfactory process.
Required Qualifications: Although the work is best suited for environmental, chemical, and mechanical engineers, chemists, environmental scientists, and other disciplines are also welcome especially those with background (or interest) in virology, fluid mechanics, and colloidal transport. Excellent written and oral communication skills are a priority.
