The School of Engineering and Technology at the University of Washington Tacoma (UW Tacoma) seeks a Postdoctoral Scholar to conduct experimental research on perfluorinated compound (PFC) treatment in wastewater.
The postdoctoral scholar will serve as a key researcher for an exciting externally funded, multi-investigator project that combines two innovative technologies, foam fractionation and hydrothermal alkaline treatment, to remove and destroy PFCs from municipal wastewater. The project is based at the Center for Urban Waters (CUW) and is a collaboration between UW Tacoma, the City of Tacoma, Aquagga, and ECT2. This position will be co-advised by Dr. Joel Baker (CUW director and project lead PI) and Dr. Emese Hadnagy, both faculty members in the UW Tacoma civil engineering program. Duties will include conducting original research using bench-scale experiments, disseminating research findings (in peer-reviewed journals, at professional conferences and via project reports), mentoring undergraduate students, and coordinating with other team members during the pilot-scale trial at the Tacoma Central Wastewater Treatment Plant.
This is a full-time position with an anticipated start date of October 1, 2023 (negotiable). Initial appointment is for 1 year, with a potential reappointment up to 1 additional year, pending performance review.

The expected salary starts at $65,508/year, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Other compensation associated with this position may include travel to national or international conferences, computing equipment, and fees associated with manuscript publications, if applicable.
