Job Description

The Xie group at Georgia Tech is searching for a full-time post-doctoral scholar to join the recently founded NSF PFI-TT project focusing on the further development and maturation of a chlorine-free water disinfection technology that synergistically combines locally enhanced electric field treatment and the natural biocidal effect of copper ions (LEEFT-Cu) to kill pathogens. The main goal of this project is to address knowledge gaps and technical barriers of the LEEFT-Cu technology identified through previous market research and customer discovery. The post-doctoral scholar will test the LEEFT-Cu system under different operating conditions and evaluate its scalability through a pilot test with an industry partner. The post-doctoral scholar is also expected to gain training and leadership development in innovation and entrepreneurship.

A start date in early 2024 is preferred. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. The initial appointment will be for one year, with one additional year contingent on performance. The appointment will include a competitive salary and benefits package.

The ideal candidate will have (1) a PhD in environmental engineering, chemical engineering, or related fields, (2) experience in designing, building, operating, and testing water treatment devices at both bench and pilot scales, (3) experience in both microbiology and electrochemistry, (4) excellent written and oral communication skills, and (5) a strong interest in entrepreneurship.

To apply, please send a cover letter describing your interest in the position, a CV, and a list of three references as a single pdf to xing.xie@ce.gatech.edu. For more information about the research group, please check the group website, https://www.xie.ce.gatech.edu/.
