Position Description

The environmental biotechnology research group in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) and Water Resources Research Center (WRRC) at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa (UHM) has two fully funded Ph.D. positions available starting in Spring 2024. The successful candidates will be co-advised by Dr. Zhiyue Wang (http://www.cee.hawaii.edu/faculty-staff-main-2/2-faculty/wang/) and Dr. Tao Yan (http://www.cee.hawaii.edu/faculty-staff-main-2/2-faculty/yan/), and will work on a U.S. Department of Energy funded projects on nitrous oxide recovery from wastewater for decarbonization of water resource recovery facilities.
The selected candidate will receive a competitive research assistant stipend, a full tuition waiver, and a life insurance and other student benefits.

Minimum Requirement

Successful candidates should have a B.S. and M.S. degree in environmental science and engineering, or a related field. Previous research experience in environmental engineering, biological processes, environmental chemistry, and environmental microbiology is preferred. The research projects involve advanced knowledge and skills in process engineering, mathematical modeling, molecular microbiology, and analytical chemistry.
