Open Postdoc Position [Metal-sulfur (Geo)chemistry]
The NanoGeoBio Laboratory in the School of Molecular Sciences, Arizona State University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Scholar to pursue projects on metal sulfide research. The focus of the projects is on the formation mechanisms, crystal structure and its connection to electronic structures, and potential electron transfer between different metal species in metal sulfide nanophases. The implications of the projects lie in new energy development based on the studied metal-sulfide systems. While candidates with solid background in crystal chemistry, inorganic chemistry, and materials science are most desirable, those with training in aqueous geochemistry, electrochemistry, and catalysis chemistry are highly relevant. Besides experimental researchers, candidates with expertise in DFT simulation are considered.
Initial appointment will be made for a fiscal year (12-month), full-time, renewable for up to three years based on performance. The position is currently open, and will remain open until filled.
The hired candidate is expected to adhere to laboratory culture and safety, conduct research and experiments independently, communicate scientific findings clearly (presentations, protocol, and manuscripts), and contribute to the supervision of undergraduate and graduate students.
Qualifications
· Candidates must have a Ph.D. in mineralogy, inorganic chemistry, materials science, geochemistry, electrochemistry, environmental chemistry or related fields.
· Candidates with multidisciplinary backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
· Candidates with prior experience with any of the following techniques, e.g., TEM, synchrotron XAS, DFT, PDF, or voltammetry are preferred.
