Open (1) Postdoctoral Researcher Position
We are seeking a motivated postdoctoral researcher to work with Dr. Onur Apul and his research group (www.onurapul.com) in Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Maine (civil.maine.edu). The research projects focus on (i) thermal destruction of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS)-laden adsorbents and (ii) novel catalysts/adsorbents for emergency breathing devices that are used in International Space Station. Apul Research Group focuses on technology development for novel water treatment systems in conjunction with life-support systems (water/air/food supply) in space exploration.
The successful candidate is expected to collaborate with an energetic and diverse group of researchers from various technical and ethnic backgrounds. The sponsors of the research group include NSF, NASA, USGS, EREF, and USDA. The researcher is expected to have some experience or interest in material synthesis and characterization (e.g., FTIR, XPS, SEM/TEM, BET) and material testing (e.g., adsorption isotherm, reaction kinetics).
The screening of candidates will immediately start, and it will continue until the position is filled The selected candidate will receive a 12-month stipend, and fringe benefits with potential for renewal.
