Graduate Research Assistantship at Villanova University
Dr. Wenqing Xu invites applications for a graduate research assistantship at master/PhD level in the department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Villanova University. Dr. Xu's research interest builds upon the fundamental understanding of environmental interfacial chemistry, with the goal of applying them to both natural and engineered systems to address today's environmental challenges. The student will work on a SERDP-funded project to improve the selectivity and performance of commercially available adsorbents for at least 18 ultrashort- and short-chain PFAS via specific surface chemistry modifications. In particular, we will focus on metal oxide-biochar composites.
Ideal candidate should have a good understanding in general chemistry, analytical chemistry, and organic chemistry. Knowledge in environmental chemistry, material chemistry, or/and computational chemistry is highly desirable. Experience in analytical instruments, or/and material synthesis is a plus. A BS in environmental engineering, environmental science, chemistry, or a related field is required and applicants with a MS degree are preferred.
