Job Description

Dr. Jacelyn Rice-Boayue invites applications for two PhD positions in her research group at North Carolina State University’s Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering. The Rice-Boayue Lab (www.riceboayuelab.com) combines modeling, analytical and social science capabilities to foster sustainable water resource management. Potential research areas include fate, transport and treatment of emerging contaminants, integrated water resource management, stormwater treatment and environmental health and equity.

Successful candidates will engage in interdisciplinary research involving environmental and ecological modeling, geospatial analytics, machine learning, and risk assessment. We seek candidates that are enthusiastic about working in an interdisciplinary collaborative team of modelers, experimentalists, and social scientists. One of the positions is expected to support collaborative research as part of the Engineering Research Center for Precision Microbiome Engineering (https://premier.pratt.duke.edu/) funded by the National Science Foundation. 

Requirements: The ideal candidates will have backgrounds in civil engineering, environmental engineering or a related field. We are looking for highly motivated students; with strong quantitative analysis skills, writing, and verbal communication. Experience with laboratory work, GIS, and programming (Python or R) are preferred.
