Job Description

Four Ph.D. student positions are available in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Alberta, in Prof. Mohamed Gamal El-Din’s research group. The positions are highly focused on environmental engineering and research related to the remediation of municipal and industrial wastewater. The recruited Ph.D. students will work on projects that concentrate on the application of solar-driven photocatalysis, electro-oxidation, passive treatment approaches, and resource recovery technologies. The students will work in a supportive research environment with state-of-the-art facilities and will be engaged in multidisciplinary collaboration.

The ideal candidate should have a strong background and keen interest in environmental engineering and analytical chemistry. Candidates with prior experience in advanced oxidation processes, electro-oxidation, or biological treatment will be preferred. In addition, excellent written and communication skills are required, along with a proven track record of success in previous academic research. The selected candidate is also expected to supervise students, prepare reports, and publish articles in peer-reviewed journals.

To be considered for the position, candidates should possess a Master of Science degree in Environmental Engineering, Biological Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field. The ideal applicant should have experience in both fundamental and applied research focused on physical, chemical, and biological processes.
