Job Description

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor campus) is seeking a postdoctoral researcher in the area of water quality and chemical/biological contaminants of emerging concern. The start date for the position is expected to be between May and June 2024. The researcher will help design and lead the research component of a pilot scale project at the City of Ann Arbor drinking water plant, advised by Prof. Alex Szczuka and Prof. Lut Raskin. The researcher will work closely with City of Ann Arbor personnel and receive support from AECOM personnel. The postdoctoral research fellow will be expected to contribute to additional research efforts in the Szczuka (szczukalab.com) and Raskin laboratories (raskinumich.wordpress.com), including manuscript preparation, grant writing, and student mentorship.

An ideal candidate for this position should be excited to gain experience in academic research that emphasizes collaborations with water utilities and environmental engineering consulting. The position is especially well suited for Ph.D. graduates who would like to explore multiple research-oriented career paths.

Applicants should have a Ph.D. (or expect to finish their Ph.D. shortly) in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Microbiology or a related field. In addition, experience with contaminant quantification using GC-MS or LC-MS and/or drinking water microbiology is desired, but not required.
