Job Description

One postdoctoral fellow position with a strong focus on electro-oxidation technologies for wastewater treatment is available in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Alberta. The candidate will work with Prof. Mohamed Gamal El-Din on multidisciplinary research projects on the fundamental understanding of water and wastewater treatment processes.

The prospective applicant should have experience in advancing wastewater treatment methods using innovative electro-oxidation techniques. The prospective applicant should have previous experience and a strong background in electrodes preparation and modification, photo-assisted electrochemical water treatment, photocatalysis, bioelectrochemical system/technologies and renewable energy driven electrochemical technologies. The candidate should also be familiar with basic analytical chemistry and organic synthesis procedures.

The post-doctoral fellow will work in collaboration with researchers working in the areas of water/wastewater treatment approaches. It is expected that the candidate will be able to disseminate the research results through journal publications and conference presentations. The candidate will also be expected to assist in the training and mentoring of graduate students, writing research proposals and assisting in the writing of research papers. Teaching experience can be arranged if desired.

The ideal candidate should meet the following qualifications: (i) a Ph.D. degree in chemical engineering, environmental engineering, or a related field; (ii) have completed the Ph.D. within the past two years (i.e., 2022 or later) with a minimum of three first-author papers, in which at least one paper published in a top journal; (iii) a strong track record of refereed journal publications; (iv) ability to work independently; (v) strong written and oral communication skills; and (vi) solid knowledge of advanced statistical approaches is highly desirable.
