Job Description

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Waterloo is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow (PDF) with a strong background in the fate of micropollutants in waste management systems to contribute to a project funded by Environmental Research & Education Foundation (EREF) that investigates the fate of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in source separated organic (SSO) processing systems. Research will initially involve developing analytical methodologies for the quantification of PFAS and total organic fluorine (TOF) in SSO, packaging materials, compost, digestate, etc. Subsequent work will also involve collecting samples from full scale composting and anaerobic digestion facilities for the purpose of estimating PFAS mass flows and fate throughout the facilities.

The PDF will work under the supervision of Drs. Wayne Parker and Anh Pham. We expect the duration of this appointment to be 2 years with an anticipated start date of October 1, 2024. Although not required, experience analyzing PFAS and other trace contaminants is preferred, and field work knowledge related to waste management would be an asset. To apply, please send your CV together with a cover letter to anh.pham@uwaterloo.ca.
