Job Description

Funded Ph.D. position available in Environmental Engineering at South Dakota School of Mines and Technology

The Environmental Engineering program at South Dakota School of Mines and Technology is looking to hire Ph.D. students starting in the Spring or Fall 2025. The prospective students are expected to work on the following research topics: 1) Formation and control of disinfection byproducts in water treatment; 2) Catalytic treatment of oxyanions in ion exchange waste brine; and 3) Developing machine learning models for water treatment. Required Qualification:
• Minimum GPA 3.0
• Minimum TOEFL 580 (or TOEFL-IBT 79) or IELTS 6.5 or Duolingo 105
• An earned MS (preferred) or bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field
• Good communication skills, team spirit, and dedication to academic excellence
• Creative, self-motivated, and strong problem-solving skills
• A background in environmental engineering or chemistry and experience operating gas/liquid/ion chromatography will be viewed favorably
• Knowledge or skills in Origin, Matlab, Python, and machine learning software.
