Job Description

Overview: Our research team at Oregon State University is looking for a creative and highly motivated postdoc for an EPA-funded 2.5-year research project. The project is part of a larger study aimed at quantifying the impact of seasonal, regional, and treatment processes on antibiotics and antibiotic-resistant bacteria/genes in U.S. wastewater systems to inform policies and management practices for public health protection. The postdoc will lead a systematic review of wastewater resistome and conduct a meta-analysis of metagenomic sequenced literature.

Team: The postdoc will be housed in the School of Chemical, Biological, and Environmental Engineering at Oregon State University and will be advised by Dr. Tala Navab. Our interdisciplinary team consists of Drs. Tala Navab (lead PI; Environmental Eng), Tyler Radniecki (co-PI; Environmental Eng), Manuel Garcia-Jaramillo (co-PI; Environmental and Molecular Toxicology), Gerrad Jones (co-PI; Biological & Ecological Eng), two PhD students on microbial/molecular work, one PhD student on chemical analyses, a postdoc with expertise on metagenomic meta-analysis (this position), and a postdoc with expertise on datamining. We are partnering with wastewater utilities and other wastewater professionals throughout the country. The project will also engage K-12 educators to develop and deliver high school curriculum modules.

Required Qualifications:
• PhD in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Microbiology, or closely related fields.
• Expertise in bioinformatics analysis of sequenced data (including data assembly, annotation, and multivariate data analysis) with publications as lead author.
• Proven track record of independent research, critical thinking, and problem-solving.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills.
• A commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience and publication record in bioinformatic analysis of resistome metagenomic data.
