Job Description

The United States Military Academy (USMA) invites applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor position within the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, with a starting date during the period from June 1st to June 30th, 2025. Exceptional candidates with significant prior experience will be considered for the rank of Associate Professor. We seek an environmental engineer able to instruct Cadets in the department’s Environmental Engineering courses. Applicants should have a record of research and publication and demonstrated excellence in education at the college level.

Primary teaching responsibilities include courses across the Environmental Engineering major. Dedication to excellence in teaching, Cadet development and scholarship are essential requirements of this position. Individuals must display outstanding character and have a strong commitment to the intellectual, military, physical, and character development of Cadets, with the opportunity to coach and guide junior faculty towards collaborative research goals.

This is an academic-tenure track position on a 12 month salary with an initial term appointment in the excepted service not to exceed three years. Term appointments may be extended beyond the initial term. Faculty that attain the academic rank of Associate Professor or Professor may have the opportunity to non-competitively receive a permanent appointment.

Applicants must have a Doctor of Philosophy in Environmental Engineering or a closely related field at the time of appointment with a core specialty in hazardous waste treatment and remediation, food-energy-water nexus, or resource recovery. Exceptional candidates with core specialties in other areas of environmental engineering will also be considered. The selection committee will evaluate breadth and depth of professional experience, demonstrated teaching excellence, scholarship potential, leadership ability, and personal attributes. Professional registration or the ability to become registered is required.
