Linda M. Abriola, the Joan Wernig and E. Paul Sorensen Professor of Engineering at Brown University, invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate position related to the mathematical modeling of reactive transport in porous media. The successful applicant will be engaged in research exploring transport of environmental contaminants and micro- and nanoparticles in multiphase systems, as part of an interdisciplinary research group that couples experimental and modeling investigations at a variety of scales, from pore to column to field. Current funded research projects encompass the use of nanomaterials in subsurface energy applications, the transport and fate of PFAS contaminants in soils and aquifers, and the development of particulate amendment technologies for in situ remediation of emerging contaminants and mixtures. On-going research collaborators include Kurt Pennell (Brown University); Natalie Cápiro (Cornell University); John Christ (S&B Christ Consulting, LLC); Linda Lee (Purdue University) and Keith Johnston (University of Texas at Austin). The successful applicant will be involved in model development and application, laboratory experimental design, supervision of graduate and undergraduate research assistants, report and proposal writing, and grants administration. Applicants should have a strong background in porous media transport modeling, excellent oral and written communication skills, and an earned doctorate in environmental engineering, soil science, applied mathematics, chemical engineering, petroleum engineering, or a related field.
