Job Description

Dr. Meng Wang’s research group in Environmental Systems Engineering in John and Willie Leone Family Department of Energy and Mineral Engineering (EME) at The Pennsylvania State University has openings for doctoral students starting in Spring/Fall 2025.  The students will conduct research in resource recovery, nutrient management or environmental sustainability. The potential projects are:

  1. Algae-based systems for resource recovery and water reuse

  2. Partial nitritation and anammox for mainstream wastewater treatment 

  3. Biorecovery of energy and minerals from mining waste

  4. Environmental biotechnology in energy and mineral applications

Self-motivated students with background in environmental engineering, chemical engineering, biotechnology, geosciences, mathematical modeling, or related fields are encouraged to apply. Candidates are expected to have strong academic records and good communication skills. Experience in bioreactor design and operation, environmental microbiology, kinetic modeling or environmental sustainability are desirable, but not required.
