Job Description

The Department of Environmental Engineering at Kunsan National University is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate to join our research team. The successful candidate will work on cutting-edge projects involving anaerobic digestion, dark fermentation, and microbial electrolysis cell processes, contributing to the advancement of sustainable waste management and bioenergy production.

Position Overview

  • Duration: 1 year with possibility of extension, based on performance and funding

Responsibilities

  • Conduct experimental research on anaerobic digestion, dark fermentation, and acid fermentation to improve efficiency and stability of bioprocesses.
  • Develop and optimize lab-scale reactors for waste-to-energy and value-added chemical production.
  • Design and perform analytical procedures to monitor process parameters (e.g., biogas composition, volatile fatty acids, microbial community dynamics).
  • Analyze and interpret experimental data using advanced statistical methods and modeling tools.
  • Prepare manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals and present findings at conferences.
  • Mentor graduate and undergraduate students in the research group.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners, including researchers from other institutions and industry.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Microbiology, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following areas: anaerobic digestion, fermentation processes (dark fermentation, acid fermentation), microbial metabolism, or reactor design.
  • Strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Hands-on experience with analytical instrumentation (e.g., gas chromatography, HPLC, microbial community analysis) is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with process modeling and life cycle assessment is a plus.
